Is Developing The Thing You Want To Do?

Developing - Is that the right thing for you

Yesterday, I had an odd thought while blowing up my daughter’s kiddy pool. It struck me like lightning. I had to stop what I was doing and mull it over. The question, “Why would anyone (myself included) waste any amount of time on something they are not passionate about?”

While I was blowing up this kiddy pool, all I could think about was my daughter having fun. The fact that she could possibly have the greatest time of her life at that moment, filled me with joy. In iOS development, we create things for people to use in the mobile sphere. Our excitement comes when users use our applications to better their lives. That’s where the passion of our work comes from.

Developing: Is it your passion?

Developing is an art. It’s part of the creative mind. It’s beautiful and magical. This is why I wouldn’t waste my time on just any app idea or building an app for a quick dollar. Unfortunately, If you’re working for a company, you may not have that much slack in the projects you work on. I think that is one of the most unappealing aspects of working for a company.

I feel that when building an application, having the user in mind at all times, will make that experience so much better. That payoff to me is worth every passionate moment during the build process.

Where is the Love?

There’s a saying “Do what you love and love what you do!” I believe in this 100%. If you love what you are doing, it doesn’t feel like work. Making what you are working on effortless is key. Feeling the passion, like blowing up a kiddy pool for your 2-year-old to enjoy, will show.

Developing Love!

This is not to be confused with “Make money doing what you love.” Here you’re trading your love for money. This is where you lose your love because the feeling of making money creates a heavy burden. Never make trade-offs!

Build, take on, and create projects that you are passionate about. Try not to settle for anything less.
